Senescence
for violin and cello
2011
duration: 8 minutes
Composed in response to Bach’s Two-Part Inventions, this duet introduces subtle and increasingly complex variations to a simple phrase. As I developed the piece I thought about aging, the structural repetition of daily life, and the malleability of our perception of time.
Premiere September 2011, SF Community Music Center, San Francisco & Subterranean Art House, Berkeley (Navitas Ensemble)
